Understanding High-Impact Tutoring

This module supports participants in exploring High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) – what it is and what makes it successful. Participants will explore the core components of HIT and how OST programs can position themselves to offer HIT to their students.

In this training participants will:

  • Understand the key principles of High-Impact Tutoring (HIT)

  • Explore why OST programs are the ideal setting for High-impact tutoring

  • Identify actionable steps to begin planning for High-impact tutoring in their respective programs.

Content Overview

Setting the Context

Participants will explore the current state of educational inequity and the barriers to academic success in the communities most often served by OST programs.

Tutoring Memory Match

Participants will connect with each other and reflect on their own experiences with tutoring while connecting with one another and breaking the ice.

Exploring the Foundational Principles of High-Impact Tutoring

Participants will learn about High-impact tutoring and the core components of design that make for a successful HIT program.

OST Soil Assessment

Participants will assess whether or not OST programs are “fertile ground” for HIT by thinking about the core components and implementation in an OST environment. Participants will explore potential and existing barriers as well as opportunities and points of existing alignment.
