This module was revised in 2016 to incorporate social-emotional learning, character building and Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California as part of CalSAC's work with the Expanded Learning 360/365 project.

During this training, participants will discuss what it means to be professional in the world of afterschool and learn how to support the families of the children and youth that they serve.

In this training participants will:

  • Understand professionalism as it relates to their work with children and youth;
  • Learn strategies to support families of children and youth that they serve.

Most Prized Possession

Participants will think critically about their role as professionals in afterschool or school-age care and the importance of being responsible for children and youth.

What is Professionalism?

Participants will look at and discuss a variety of behaviors that are considered professional and how to maintain professionalism in the program setting. 

Role Model Reflection

Participants will reflect on their role modeling and set goals for themselves.

Positive Attitude

Positive Attitude is critical to the success of the program!  Participants will demonstrate a positive attitude using a variety of materials.

Working With Families

Supporting families and children/youth is an essential part of the afterschool world, and this part of the training allows participants to explore their own role in supporting families.
