LDI Highlight - Wendy Villalobos

The California School-Age Consortium is proud to highlight Wendy Villalobos from CalSAC's Leadership Development Institute for Emerging Leaders of Color. Wendy is a leader who has demonstrated unrivaled commitment to the field and drive for advanced leadership in the out-of-school time and early learning field.

Wendy Villalobos, Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement - Berkeley

Wendy Villalobos has been working for the Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement (BAHIA Inc.) since 2015. Wendy is currently the Operations Manager for BAHIA Inc., a non-profit agency in Berkeley that provide bilingual (Spanish/English) preschool and afterschool care for children age 2-10 years old.

Prior to working for BAHIA Inc., Wendy worked in the afterschool field for eight years with K-12 students. Wendy is a Mexican-Salvadoran Xicana, born and raised in Los Angeles. She graduated from La Puente High School and soon after moved to the Bay Area where she received her Bachelors of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley. Her major was Spanish and Portuguese Literature with an Education minor focused on the politics of students of color in the U.S. education system.

Her extracurriculars are serving the local community by being an educational resource. She is involved in continuous outreach and advocacy work towards demystifying higher education in underserved communities. She currently serves on the UC Berkeley Chicano/Latino Alumni Association-Bay Area Chapter as Treasurer. Wendy is also on her second year as an instructor for High School Equivalency preparation courses in Spanish through the Multicultural Institute in Berkeley and Richmond.

Wendy enjoys working in diverse environments and believes it is important for everyone to have access to being a lifelong learner.
