Social-Emotional Learning and Character Development
All children need social-emotional and character skills to thrive in school, work and life. Social-Emotional Learning and Character Development: The Expanded Learning 360º/365 Training and Professional Development program provides participants with foundational knowledge of social-emotional learning. Out-of-school time programs play an important role in helping young people develop confidence, problem-solving skills, self-management, and interpersonal skills. In this program, practitioners learn how to help young people build a solid foundation of character, which imparts valuable social skills for success in school, work and life.
Science Action Club
Through games, projects, and hands-on citizen science, youth in SAC investigate nature, document their discoveries, connect with scientists, and design strategies to protect our planet. Educators receive professional development training on SAC kits, guidebooks, and best practices for teaching science in the informal learning environment.
Summer TA Network Project
Summer programs have the potential to improve academic achievement and learning readiness for participating children and youth. Summer learning loss, the phenomenon where young people lose academic skills over the summer, is one of the most significant causes of the achievement gap between lower and higher income youth and one of the strongest contributors to the high school dropout rate. For many young people, the summer “opportunity gap” contributes to the gaps in achievement, employment and college and career success.
The Summer Technical Assistance Network Project prepares program staff to run the highest quality summer programs for youth. Participating sites gain training and tools that maximize their effectiveness and technical assistance to help them implement everything they learn.
