The Afterschool Assistant Program Manager position is an essential member of the Afterschool educator team, facilitating the collaboration of classrooms and teachers in the planning of meaningful curriculum. The Afterschool Assistant Program Manager is responsible for coordinating the care of all the Afterschool children and serves as the day-to-day lead for the running of the program. This includes behavior management, special support needs, mental health consultation, classroom set up and curriculum for Afterschool. The Assistant Program Manager is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of assistant teachers and an array of administrative duties that support the program.

Job Responsibilities


  • Support and collaborate with teachers in the creation and implementation of program curriculum, classroom management systems and behavior management plans.

  • Provide behavior, academic, social and emotional support to students in consultation with teachers, families, and providers.

  • Along with the Program Manager, ensure that the quality of program content remains at a high level and developmentally appropriate using Afterschool and California state licensing standards.

  • Supervise, schedule and evaluate assistant teachers and substitutes (as needed). Also, work with Program Manager to support all Afterschool staff.

  • Maintain a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of the children.

  • Work with teachers to ensure effective and informative communication, including maintenance of Afterschool Online, weekly emails to rents and facilitating meetings between teachers and parents.

  • Program and organize Afterschool special events, including Full Days, Shabbat Dinners, Homecoming and Showcase.

  • Work in consultation with the Program Manager and Senior Jewish Educator to provide Jewish programming.

  • Provide oversight and support of Afterschool class rooms in terms of creating the following schedules; roof, pool, art studio, and drive-through.

  • Schedule staff for drive-through, snack preparation, late-night schedules, and buses.

  • Help manage payroll with Program Manager. This includes managing timesheets, approving time sheets, manual pay adjustments.

  • Create and maintain a system for ordering and replenishing program supplies, including budget tracking.

  • Assist Program Manager in marketing and outreach to grow the program, including talking with prospective families and networking with SFUSD school administrators.


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in elementary school education

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of the JCCSF

  • Knowledge of ages and stages of child development

  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, organizational skills, ability to problem solve, lead, follow and be resourceful

  • Thrive in ambiguous situations and can maintain professionalism in a high pace work environment

  • Some knowledge of Jewish culture or willingness to learn

  • Social work or similar experience a plus

  • Ability to work some evenings.

Status: Benefited, exempt, supervisory position.

Hours: Full-time, year-round position.
