This is a part-time position in our CollegeTrek Afterschool Program, full-time in Summer Fun Camp. The Recreation Specialist focuses on sports and other recreation activities for grades 3-12.
REPORTS TO: Christelle Telesford, associate director
SCHEDULE: Afterschool Mon-Fri, 2-6pm; 8 hours/day in summer TBD; occasional Saturday events
Develop and supervise sports and recreation activities, including implementing discipline procedures
Work with students and staff in developing and coordinating field trips and other events
Identify, supervise and train contractors, interns and other volunteers in recreation activities
Coordinate “free time” activities including arts and crafts, games, snacks, etc.
Oversee and supervise youth and volunteers in program set up and clean up
Create lesson plans for recreation activities and assist contractors with lesson plan development
Submit a monthly report of accomplishments to the associate director
Other activities in all areas, as needed
Minimum Associate’s degree obtained or in progress in recreation, child development or other related field
Ability to participate in and provide instruction and supervision for recreational activities
Experience leading sports and/or other recreation programming for school-age youth
Experience using lesson plans or other tools to develop recreational activities
A positive attitude and ability to work in a collaborative environment
Passion and commitment to support students in grades 3-12 in the South Los Angeles area
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications
Solid written, math and verbal communication skills
