This is a part-time position in our CollegeTrek Afterschool Program, full-time in Summer Fun Camp. The Education Specialist focuses on assessments, and academic enrichment and intervention for grades 3-12.
REPORTS TO: Naomi McSwain, executive director
SCHEDULE: Afterschool Mon-Fri, 2-6pm; 8 hours/day in summer TBD; occasional Saturday events
Assist students with assessments, homework and tutoring
Supervise and train interns and other volunteers in education activities
Review student test results and make recommendations for short and long-range interventions
Create lesson plans for education programs and assist other staff with lesson plan development
Develop and implement procedures and schedules for providing online assessments for grades 3-12
Develop and monitor Success folders and other student records for academic enrichment
Prepare and maintain assessments reports for tracking test scores and outcomes data
Submit a monthly report of accomplishments to the executive director
Other activities in all areas, as needed
Minimum bachelor’s degree obtained or in progress in education, child development or other related field
Experience teaching school-age youth in academics, including math, reading and language arts
Experience with assessments, interventions and tracking program outcomes preferred
A positive attitude and ability to work in a collaborative environment
Passion and commitment to support students in grades 3-12 in the South Los Angeles area
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications
Solid written, math and verbal communication skills
