Located on The Brandeis School campus in the Lake Merced neighborhood, Brotherhood Way Preschool features an art studio and large outdoor playground, spacious classrooms in a woodland setting, community garden creatively designed for exploration and natural discovery, teaching specialists on staff for art, music, and gymnastics

The Preschool Site Director will manage and direct the preschool site in accordance with our vision for excellence in early childhood education. Recruit and enroll families and children in order to maintain full enrollment and achieve our financial goals. Hire excellent staff and ensure professional development. Manage the day-to-day operation of the preschool program, enrichment program, summer program, family activities and parent education programs, where applicable. The Site Director reports to the Chief Program Officer, Family Life.

Supervises: All staff on preschool site including teachers, assistant teachers, specialists, administrative assistant and facilities personnel

Hours: Full time, full year

Job Responsibilities

I. Program

A. Develop and implement Reggio-Emilia inspired and Jewish curriculum in accordance with the mission, philosophy and goals of the Claude and Louise Rosenberg Early Childhood Education Program

B. Communicate and clarify program mission, philosophy, goals and curriculum to parents and staff

C. Ensure programmatic quality as well as developmentally appropriateness of the program activities

II. Administration
A. Oversee and manage the preschool’s physical plant

  • Ensure that preschool environment is in accordance with licensing requirements

  • Provide a clean, safe and child-ready environment

  • Monitor maintenance of facility, equipment and supplies

B. Along with the CPO, develop and manage the preschool’s budget ensuring that expenses are kept within the budget and financial records are maintained

C. Along with the CPO and ECE Business Manager, carry out all admissions procedures including conducting tours, organizing enrollment lists, setting up classroom groups, and working to fill open slots when applicable

D. Oversee kindergarten application process, maintain records, and review all kindergarten recommendations; participate in Kindergarten Information Night and other Kindergarten process programs

E. Maintain confidentiality and model professionalism

F. Meet regularly with the CPO; with the director’s team (CPO and other Site Directors)

III. Staff Development, Support and Training
A. Hire, orient and supervise staff members including Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Associate Teachers, Specialists and support staff

B. Maintain and supervise staff schedule, daily classroom schedule and yearly calendar

C. Prepare and deliver yearly evaluations for preschool staff

D. Carry out observations of staff and maintain ongoing feedback with staff

E. Provide and implement appropriate in-service training and staff development

F. Lead and supervise staff through communication, collaboration and discussion of children’s needs, and curriculum planning

G. Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation, collaboration and respect among staff members

IV. Parent Relations
A. Model positive and professional interactions towards parents providing communication and resources

B. Encourage parent engagement and partnership with parents

C. Conduct parent conferences and meetings to address issues relating to children’s development, behavior, progress and program participation when applicable

D. Provide support and facilitate referrals to outside agencies and/or services if needed

E. Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

  • Minimum of 24 units in Early Childhood Education including 6 Administrative units

  • Current Site Supervisor certification

  • Previous teaching and administrative experience with no less than 3 years as a preschool director

  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise staff

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of ages and stages of child development

  • Knowledge of Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education

  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and tradition

  • Strong commitment to the mission and values of the JCCSF
