I was recently at CalSAC’s BOD/Staff retreat. As part of introductions, we each shared about our journey to CalSAC, and almost always, there was another person that we believed in, or believed in us (or both) that brought us into the community. We often stayed connected because of those people and the way they and the CalSAC community made us feel: connected, valued, trusted, transformed.
After a comprehensive and competitive search, CalSAC is pleased to announce Lupine Reppert as our new Executive Director!
Although our budget request for additional ASES funding had a disappointing outcome, hope for funding still lives through AB 1744.

It was an honor to share about CalSAC’s collective accomplishments in individual giving fundraising and to reflect on why our efforts are working.

In April 2012, the California Employment Development Department's (EDD) Labor Market Information Division (LMID) partnered with the California Department of Education (CDE) to distribute the 2012 After-School Program Survey to over 4,000 After School Education and Safety (ASES) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) programs. The survey objective was to gather information that can be used to support CDE's workforce initiatives for ASES and CCLC programs and their respective personnel. The initiative's primary goals are to address the current and anticipate the future occupational needs of after-school programs and support the career development goals of program personnel.
It is essential that your voice is heard! This 10 minute survey will be used to capture perspectives from after school providers to help drive funding and policy priorities. Your voice is critical to help policymakers determine if and how the additional $50 million has benefited programs and to support future actions to address any remaining financial need to run quality after school programs.
The Leadership Learning Community hosted CalSAC's Executive Director, Ruth Obel-Jorgensen, and Director of Programs, Aleah Rosario, as they talked about how the Leadership Development Institute is helping increase the number of leaders of color in the nonprofit sector, and how the fellowships address the practices and biases of governing nonprofit organizations.
It's that time again - CalSAC is participating in Giving Tuesday! In celebration of this global day of giving, CalSAC will be completing challenges where, upon reaching each fundraising milestone, a different challenge will be unlocked!
Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.
The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and poetry—and discover new skills. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.
