The repeal of Prop 49 funding threatens thousands of existing afterschool programs and will not solve the budget shortfall. Afterschool is a mere ½ of 1 percent of the state budget. A costly initiative to repeal Prop 49 would not result in even one dollar of savings in the 2008-09 budget year!

Working families are struggling more than ever today, and with rising violence and struggling schools, children desperately need safe places to continue learning. Now is not the time to pull the rug out from under them by decreasing investments in the after-school programs that keep kids safe and their parents free from worry!

1. Call Your Legislators - urge them to oppose the inclusion of an initiative to repeal Prop 49 funding recently passed by the Budget Conference Committee. See www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html for contact info.
